We think we are a bit different than many companies and services on the high street. “Inspiring communities today & tomorrow” is our vision. We are an innovative & socially responsible organization. We are dedicated to creating resilient communities with a focus on health, wellbeing and creation of social capital. We hope, together with those communities we serve to build a better tomorrow.
The first Green Light Pharmacy opened its doors in 1999 in the densely populated, diverse community of Euston, London. The intent of founding pharmacists John Foreman and Tim O’Donoghue was ambitious but determined: to change the predominant pharmacy model from its narrow focus of prescriptions and retailing to a model that puts community at its core and wellness, education and prevention as the focus.
The Euston pharmacy remains the flagship of Green Lights group of community pharmacies spread across London.
The Green Light experience begins the moment you walk in the door. Unlike many pharmacies the space is open, clear of retail clutter, the pharmacist is visible and accessible, not hidden behind a screen or elevated in an area removed from the customer.
A Green Light pharmacist is available and approachable, willing and able to answer questions about the health and the wellbeing of you and your family. There are consulting areas where you and the pharmacist can move to if you would like to discuss any concerns privately.
A Green Light pharmacist facilitates quit smoking programmes, manages travel vaccinations, conducts medicine reviews, leads education classes for the local community, and everything in between. We believe people should be empowered to make decisions about their own health and wellbeing, and supporting our customers to achieve this is at the heart of everything we do. At a Green Light Pharmacy you will be able to see a highly qualified Health Care Professional in minutes, without the need for an appointment. Think of us as a really easy to access friendly NHS Walk-In Centre.
The customer service experience does not start or stop with the pharmacist; all Green Light staff have a vested interest in your care and wellbeing. Why? Because Green Light is an employee owned co-operative. There are employee shareholders in every branch, staff with a stake in the company’s success, people who genuinely care about your experience in their pharmacy.
Green Light is a member of the Employee Ownership Association (EOA) which is a movement for change, for a better way of doing business and we believe provides a model which is an essential component of building resilient communities.
Green Light pharmacies are found in areas of socio-economic deprivation and multi-cultural communities and the makeup of our staff reflect this diversity. This reduces language and cultural barriers that sometimes prevent people from seeking care and support from their local health care providers. We employ local people, so our staff are from and live in the local communities we serve, so they genuinely understand the community because it is our community
Green Light aims to improve the social cohesion of the communities they are based in with a model of customer care and service delivery considered to be the ‘future of pharmacy.’ A Government White Paper, “Choosing Health through Pharmacy” used Green Light as an example of just this future
Green Light’s success has been recognised with various industry & professional awards and most recently we were awarded 2 NHS primary care contracts in East London based on the provision of innovative services to the local community.
“Inspiring communities today and tomorrow” is our vision and we look forward to working with our customers and communities for the success of all.
